Let’s take a look at birthday gifts for our senior
citizens. So often we hear it said or have said it ourselves,”what
can I give someone who has everything they want”? Again,
it’s more the recognition than just the gift. It’s
about being remembered and made to feel special.
For the senior who loves to have a good time, and keep on
the go, a weekend getaway would be just the gift. Get a tour
bus trip that includes a Bed and Breakfast stay and you will
be their “favorite son or daughter” for sure!
Seniors have the time that they never had before for traveling.
Keep mental notes on their favorite sights, states, and their
interests. Do they love to golf, fish, visit museums or art
galleries? Putting a gift like this together would be loads
of fun and would give your loved ones the opportunity for
making memories and creating deeper relationships with their
friends. If they love the ocean, a cruise to one of our neighboring
islands would be ideal. On a smaller scale a paid trip to
resort with a bungalow on the beach would be great fun.
If your senior is one who loves games, there are quite a
few gifts that have been enhanced just for them. There are
large face playing cards to make it all the easier. There
are handheld crossword puzzles that are easier to read due
to magnification. There is a game out (reminds me of a trivia
game) called The Reminiscing Game. It’s a perfect game
for those who love history and just remembering the ‘good
old days’. There are collections made now of the musicals
and movies from the early days of Broadway and Hollywood.
These are wonderful for the people who especially enjoyed
the beginnings of all the famous actors and singers. For the
person who loves to read, how about a gift basket with their
favorite books in large print, a couple of their favorite
movies, a big box of microwave popcorn, a couple of (low carb)
candy bars and a liter of soda. You could include an invitation
for them to bring all of the above over to your house for
a “Fun Night” whenever they would like. Your relationship
can’t help but get better and better!
At this particular stage of life, giving gifts of comfort
are very welcome and what better time than a birthday to share.
Massagers for the back, neck, feet and anywhere it hurts massagers
are very thoughtful gifts. There are pad massagers you can
put in chairs or on the bed. Several styles of recliners and
rockers have massagers built in. As people get older, their
metabolism slows down (sort of like all the other parts) and
those beautiful throws and blankets are really appreciated
in the winter. How about gloves and socks with batteries for
heat? You might not need to be a senior to enjoy that kind
of birthday gift!
